Richmond, VA: Restaurant Review: The Urban Farmhouse

We weren’t really looking for somewhere to have a pre-dinner snack. But as we wandered down the cobblestone streets of the Shockoe Slip, an inviting corner cafe caught my eye. Large floor to ceiling windows let gorgeous light into the industrial, comfortable space. We glanced at the menu posted outside & immediately decided to stop in for a glass of Malbec Pinot Grigio & a plate full of local cow’s & goat’s milk cheese & fresh bread.

Richmond’s Urban Farmhouse Market & Cafe might be the best place I have ever randomly stumbled upon. This casual cafe, serves a variety of coffee & tea, & boosts a simple menu of fresh, seasonal & locally sourced ingredients. In addition to the cafe, the Urban Farmhouse also sells a variety of wines, Virginia-made products & nifty beverages.

We enjoyed our wine & cheese at a small cafe table overlooking the street, & for a moment, almost felt like we were in Paris. The staff was gracious, & even were the ones that recommended Havana 59 to us for dinner. While the Shockoe location is currently the only one, they’re thinking about expanding. I hope when they do, they retain the charming, homegrown feeling that will keep me coming back every time I’m in Richmond.
